Object Drawing

#1

I would like to request an object drawing mode implementation that could improve workflow efficiency during Clean Up work and Stickfight animation production. While this feature exists in other tools, I believe it would be a valuable addition to Umoupen’s vector capabilities, especially for artists transitioning from Flash.

Object drawing mode is a vector-based drawing approach where every stroke or shape becomes a selectable, independently moveable object immediately upon creation. Unlike standard drawing where lines merge together, each element stays isolated. This means you can adjust, transform, or delete individual strokes without affecting surrounding artwork.

When you draw in object mode, each line you create is automatically its own object. You can then use transform and distortion tools to reshape, move, or bend these strokes without accidentally merging them or breaking other lines. It’s particularly useful during iteration, where you need to tweak positions, adjust shapes, or fix details quickly.

For Clean Up work, this speeds up the correction process significantly. Instead of carefully managing layers or redrawing sections, an artist can simply select a line, adjust it with transform or distort tools, and move on. The attached video demonstrates this in detail, showing how efficiently corrections can happen with this workflow.

For Stickfight animation, it makes building and adjusting character structures faster. Since limbs and joints remain independent objects, you can rotate, stretch, or reposition them without worrying about other elements breaking or merging unexpectedly.

I understand Umoupen is building its own identity, not trying to replicate Adobe Animate. But since Umoupen already works with vectors, having solid transformation and distortion tools with object-based drawing would complement that strength. It would also help artists coming from Flash adapt more smoothly, without forcing them to completely change their approach to line work and correction.

These videos (https://youtu.be/VBorLIaSb2Y?si=D4zIP__HT42wMTDm&t=213; https://youtu.be/EfpFJvdq_kg?t=55&si=Veiscp1nSAtBdn3-) shows how distort and free transform tools can reshape individual drawn lines, which is exactly the kind of capability that would make object drawing mode genuinely useful for daily work.

I appreciate the thought you put into Umoupen’s development. I’ve tried to be specific about the workflow benefits, and I’ve included references to how this would actually be used in practice. Whether this fits your roadmap is entirely your call.
